Maria del Pilar Troncoso, President of ASIPI, participated in the “Seminar on the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) for Latin America: the PCT to the service of innovation policies”, held from September 5 to 7 at the Hotel Capri in Havana, Cuba.
The meeting was organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Cuban Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) and with support from the Trust Fund in WIPO Spain (FIT-IS). It sought to continue the culture of tracking events on the implementation of PCT and the challenges involving patent procedures in Latin American countries.
Public officials participated in the event, in representation of the National Intellectual Property Offices of the Latin nations, who shared in detail the achievements, obstacles, and the goals set by each office for the upcoming periods.
The academic program of the event was divided into 4 parts, in which different topics related to the PCT were discussed, such as promoting its use in the research centers, and the results of such research in the university field.
Maria del Pilar Troncoso participated as a panelist with a special presentation entitled “ASIPI and the implementation of the PCT in the region” where she addressed the issue from the position of the Association as an entity that works focused on Latin America.
The event served as another opportunity for collaboration between WIPO and ASIPI, and to continue working towards the growth of the intellectual property in the region.
