ASIPI at the IACC Latin America Brand Protection Summit
The Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI), coordinated the panel titled “New opportunities to maximize public-private cooperation”, at the IACC Latin America Brand Protection Summit, held from October 17 to 19 in Orlando, United States. ASIPI was represented by Maria Cecilia Romoleroux, who also served as an exhibitor in the aforementioned panel.
The exhibition covered the reality of Latin American countries, where the infringing goods could be seized and the parallel import controlled by the use of regulatory norms. These are used to protect consumers while governments give them more importance than the violation of Intellectual Property. For their part, the exhibitors representing the private sector discussed the different options to control infractions through non-traditional means.
Specifically, the panel included the participation of Sonia Guadalupe Baide Licona, Fiscal from Honduras, Irely Aquique Pineda, Division Director of the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and Julie Mejía, Brand Protection Manager for Latin America of Procter & Gamble.
