Intellectual Property Summer Institute (IPSI)

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Three (3) scholarships will be awarded for the Intellectual Property courses in the Summer Institute (IPSI).

This competition is independent of the competition established for the JD program and the master’s degrees (LLM/MIP).

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the Intellectual Property courses in the Summer Institute (IPSI) must meet the requirements listed below:

    1. To be an ASIPI member with all dues up to date including the 2023 dues and, once accrued, the corresponding 2024 dues.
    2. Financially able to meet all travel, lodging, and food expenses to complete the in-person academic period required by the program.

WRITTEN ESSAY

Applicants for the scholarship for the Intellectual Property courses in the Summer Institute (IPSI) must prepare a written essay that will be evaluated by a Qualifying Jury and must strictly comply with the following requirements:

Topic: Any topic related to Intellectual Property.

Length: Maximum 10 pages according to the following format:

    • Paper size: A4
    • Font: Arial
    • Font size: 12
    • Paragraph: simple

Anonymity: The essay should not have any mention of the author.

Unpublished: The essays must be unpublished and written by the participant. They cannot have been submitted to other contests or published.

Language: The essay entries must be submitted in English only.

Originality: Special consideration will be given to the originality of the work as well as the author’s own ideas and concepts on the subject matter.

SUBMISSION LETTER

Participants must submit their the essay along with a letter that includes their full name, country, e-mail and phone number.

In this letter they must also declare under oath that the essay is of their authorship, original and unpublished, and expressly state that they comply with all the requirements contained in the Rules and that they assume the obligations and commitments contained therein.

Likewise, they must also indicate that they are competing for the IPSI program.

PROCEDURE

Notification of participation

All interested parties shall notify ASIPI’s Secretariat of their intention to participate in the contest and shall complete the form provided for such purposes (Letter of Participation and Commitment).

The deadline to send this notification is December 15, 2023.

Notwithstanding the above, the lack of notification shall not be an obstacle for the interested party to submit an essay to compete within the established term, and the fulfillment of the requirements shall be evaluated  at the time of submission of your essay.

Only in the case that the applicant works in a company that is a corporate partner of ASIPI, a letter issued by said company must also be attached indicating that the applicant works for it and that they are aware of this application. This letter will be required when the work is sent in case the participation has not been notified until the date indicated in this section.

Submission of papers

The essays must be sent via e-mail together with the submission letter to the ASIPI Secretariat ([email protected]) no later than Februery 09, 2024.

Admission of papers

Once the essays have been received, it must be confirmed that they comply with the requirements outlined in the Rules of the contest. If any work does not meet the requirements, the author will be informed immediately and given five calendar days from the notification date to correct the error.

If the correction is not received within the aforementioned period, it will be assumed that the participant has withdrawn his/her application from the scholarships contest.

Grading

The essays will be sent to the Qualifying Jury who will select 3 winning essays for the competition for the IPSI programs.

In the event that the original winners do not accept or cannot access the scholarships to which they have been awarded, the guidelines established for these cases in the Rules will apply.

The Qualifying Jury shall report the winning works no later than March 15, 2024, and the ASIPI’s Secretary shall be notified of the result.

Notification of the winners

ASIPI’s Secretary shall communicate the names of the winners and the topics of the respective essays to the Executive Committee for its immediate approval. Subsequently, the ASIPI’s Secretary shall notify the winners of the assigned scholarships no later than March 29, 2024.

The scholarship winners shall confirm to the ASIPI’s Secretary their participation in the respective Academic Program by April 5, 2024.

The essays will be sent to the Qualifying Jury who will choose 3 winning works for the competition for the JD program and the Master’s programs indicating the order of the winners. The first-place winner will have the right to choose between the J.D and M.A. scholarship programs. If he/she only applied for one of the programs, this right will transfer to the second and, if applicable, to the third work chosen.

In the event that the original winners do not accept or cannot access the scholarships to which they have been awarded, the guidelines established for these cases in the Rules will apply.
