I present the untold story of how various historical circumstances created geopolitical, social, migratory and economic situations in El Salvador; imperceptibly sowing a seed that would allow the rise of Creative Industries. We adopted regulations that protect and defend Intellectual Property, the key pillar of Creative Industries. I review regulations that strengthen consumers’ use of e-commerce and comment on new laws to combat cyber crimes and allow claims for moral damages; complementing the legal tools available, should those arise from Intellectual Property violations.
I explain how legal and institutional incentives drove Creative Industries towards 2020, when a Digital Agenda to digitally transform El Salvador by 2030, was launched. I share success stories starting with a pioneering Salvadoran artisan artist to sophisticated companies that develop software and post-production services for large film studios.
I optimistically see that the sum of historical circumstances, a protective regulatory framework, constant institutional support, a strong entrepreneurial drive, our resilient spirit and the digital map traced, will result in a constellation of opportunities for the protection, development, growth and expansion of Creative Industries in El Salvador; providing a shinning future and a new economic base to the country.
