After decades of discussion, in 2024 Uruguay acceded to the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), which entered into force on January 7, 2025. This important milestone for the Uruguayan patent system marks the beginning of a new stage for applicants, agents, and the innovation ecosystem. The webinar will analyze the local implementation process and, in particular, Uruguay’s first experiences with the PCT. Topics will include the experience of the Patent Office as Receiving Office, the requirements for entering the National Phase in Uruguay, the practical implications for attorneys and patent agents, and the expected impact on universities, R&D
centers, and technology transfer, with a focus on optimizing international protection strategies from Uruguay.
