Sports Law Conference in New York

ASIPI successfully hosted its first Sports Law Conference in the city of New York on April 12th. The event was a great success and attended by US and International lawyers, businessmen and law students from Columbia, NYU and Fordham. ASIPI will continue to work to bring events to its members with recognized industry leaders in areas that are redefining the management of IP assets.

The conference explored various aspects of the sports industry and its commercialization. The day was broken into six panels titled: [1] Giving Brands a Kick, [2] How Professional Sports Leagues, Teams & Properties Value, Manage, Police & Monetize their IP Rights, [3] Fantasy Sports Contests & Traditional Sports Gambling, [4] The Global Business of Soccer, [5] The Rise of Women in Sports, and [6] Revenue Generation in Sports. Each panel featured US professional sports leagues, teams industry experts, and leading sports attorneys.

Elisabeth Siemsen, President of ASIPI gave the opening remarks. A representative for AIPLA, WIPO and the USPTO also gave some brief remarks on the celebration of the World IP Day. Ayala Deutsch, Deputy General Counsel at the NBA and President Elect of INTA was the speaker on the Rise of Women panel.

Enrique Diaz, Luis Henriquez, Marco Palacios, Ricardo Fischer, Juli Gutierrez and Maria del Pilar Troncoso, who are members of the Executive Committee of ASIPI, were also in attendance.
