Excelente inicio de la agenda académica de las Jornadas de Buenos Aires

With a large audience, the academic agenda of the Work Sessions began. Aldo Di Paolantonio, of Levin Global of Argentina and Julio Pereira of PCM Abogados of Chile, masterfully addressed the topic of “The most valuable assets of a company: Valuation of Intangibles and Financial Strategies for Management” under the moderation of Manuel Polanco of the firm Bolet & Terrero.

Then, on the panel “Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP): What does it incorporate to IP ?, Felipe Lopeandía, Head of the TPP Department of Chile, referred to the issues and proposals raised throughout the negotiation process of this agreement, and Probir Mehta, Assistant US Trade Representative for Innovation and Intellectual Property, emphasized the importance of promoting innovation and ensuring its protection and compliance.

Special space had the execution of two important collaboration agreements. ASIPI strengthened relations with the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay and the Arbitration and Mediation Center of Santiago de Chile; we are sure that these will bring mutual benefits to the parties.

The topic of appellations of origin and their level of protection was addressed by three important panelists. Eliseo Montiel, representing IMPI, referred to the importance of finding a balance in the recognition, registration and protection of geographical indications and trademarks for their use. For her part, Laura Hammel of the USPTO, addressed the issue of protection of GIs under the United States System. Finally, Elio de Tullio, representative of OriGIn, referred to the protection of GIs at an international level.

After lunch, the first panel was led by José Massaguer of the firm Uría Menéndez and Fernando Tomeo of Abieri Fracchia & Tomeo Abogados, who addressed the topic “Online Users: Social Networks and Liability for Contents”, under the moderation of Mercedes Castells of Fischer Abogados.

As a closing of the academic session, Christine Hernandez of VF Intellectual Property Services, INC., Ignacio Temiño of Abril Abogados and Ezequiel Aleman of Fedus Management Consulting, addressed the topic of the ‘wearable technologies’ in the form of questions asked by the moderator, Anthony Lupo of Arent Fox LLP, based on a case.

After the academic and networking agenda, the social program was in charge of the Local Law Firms that offered an entertaining cocktail at the Usina del Arte, with the participation of Vox Pop and their a capella music and a tango demostration.
