The space economy will play a significant role in the Fifth Industrial Revolution, a new phase of industrialization that emphasizes the collaboration between humans and advanced technologies. The world economy today is $100T, and the Space Economy is estimated to grow to $4T by the 2040s and $10T by 2050; generating more than the GDP of the majority of the world’s continents and all of Latin American countries combined.
These staggering economic forecasts for the Space Economy raise fundamental questions about how countries will stay economically, technologically and politically relevant and competitive in the 5th Industrial Revolution, and how the legal and intellectual property system will support innovation.
