Key Note Panel: New Intellectual Property Issues for Tech Startups in Latin America
The digital revolution offers great opportunities for tech startups, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). These opportunities are derived from the cheap access to basic technologies and the existence of an important global market for open source software and freely available data and information. The offshoring inherent in the digital world favors Latin American startups, which can take advantage of a regional market with shared languages and cultures. However, the chances of success of any project of these characteristics necessarily go through an adequate management of intellectual property that includes novel issues such as the protection of the AI models developed by these companies, or the data generated by their users; and compliance with the conditions imposed by open source licenses when using third-party software and data.
