A 360 ° View of the Cannabis Industry

The phenomenon of industrial use of Cannabis worldwide has generated the need to adopt public policies that regulate everything from cultivation, processing, production, and distribution of a wide range of products made from cannabis hemp components, without disregarding the recreational and medicinal use of marijuana.
Countries have been establishing regulations on products made from the cannabinoid precursor based on their own vision and social, recreational, police, and medicinal experiences with this plant. Although marijuana is not originally from Mesoamerica, Latin America does have a large industry initially focused on cultivation, which is now growing in the use of hemp in multiple industrial sectors. Simultaneously to the regulatory process, the use of the plant is being subject to research and development in unexpected and diverse sectors.
The development of cannabis and its products proposes new markets for the Intellectual Property and Health Law industries. In light of this phenomenon, an appropriate scenario is established for legal debate and the development of proposals that allow the industry to evolve while protecting the rights of holders in balance with the well-being of consumers and society. ASIPI, by bringing together the specialties of IP and Health Law, is the appropriate organization to promote the debate of ideas, the transfer of knowledge, and the development of public policy proposals.

Objectives

To establish spaces for reviewing the development of the cannabis market and the state of health and IP regulations, and promote the debate of ideas and the elaboration of regulatory proposals that country representatives can use locally. The topics to be reviewed range from the early stages of cultivation to the commercialization of the final product in fields such as medicines, food, essences, cosmetics, textiles, etc., all from the perspective of IP and Health Law.

Module 1 Objective:
Holistic review of Cannabis from its history, evolution, and industrialization and understanding its products and markets, including trade perspectives.

Module 2 Objective:
Understand the relationship between cannabis health law and IP rights.

Modules 3 and 4 Objective:
Review current health legislation in the most representative countries in LA (Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, among others).

Module 5 Objective:
Regulatory trends in Canada and the United States.

Module 6 Objective:
Provide an overview of cannabis industry regulation in the European Union.
