A Geographical Indications Survival Guide to the United States
This article provides an overview of the U.S. federal system of protection for geographical indications in the form of certification marks, collective marks and ordinary trademarks, administered by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and of the separate regime of domestic and foreign wine appellations administered by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau in the U.S. Department of the Treasury, in any effort to provide a few pointers for Latin American geographical indications hoping to survive the journey to El Norte.
