The importance and development of Appellations of Origin or Geographical Indications, in particular the CUBA PDO for rum originating in the Republic of Cuba, as opposed to applications and use of trademarks with the term Cuba for rum products not manufactured in the Republic of Cuba , while the latter are indicative of a false origin and therefore misleading for the consumer; It is illustrated with cases resolved in different Intellectual Property Offices and with the legislation of some countries, in particular of the Republic of Cuba.
