Disruptive Green Technologies and Intellectual Property

Disruptive Green Technologies and Intellectual Property

The development of disruptive sustainable technologies that precede technological change is relevant in both developed and developing economies. Sustainability is the driving force behind the emergence of this type of technology because the world needs to deal with environmental problems such as: scarcity of resources, air and water pollution, climate change, among others.

Today, companies are investing more capital and resources in sustainable business models that usually include sophisticated technologies developed internally or by third parties, which due to their innovative nature or the challenges associated with their transfer, scaling and implementation, are complex and unpredictable to apply.

Intellectual Property regimes function as exclusive rights to protect developments that will eventually save the planet and its biodiversity.

In this context, protection strategies must not only target technologies, but also consider complex and often disruptive business models. Likewise, it is necessary to consider technology transfer so that innovations generated by outsiders can be turned into products and services that make the vision of an ecological society a reality.
