Guillermo Carey is a Partner of Carey and co-head of the firm’s Intellectual Property and Information Technology, Venture Capital and Private Equity Groups. Also, he is the head of the Life Sciences, Technology and Consumer Law Group.
His practice specializes in intellectual property, life sciences, IP litigation, licensing, distribution and franchise agreement, data privacy, technology law, trademarks, patents, electronic commerce, technology transfer and artificial intelligence.
Guillermo has advised high-impact Chilean technology companies on technology transfer, and the internationalization of these. He has also advised the Chilean Government on various fronts related to IP and transfer of technology.
more than 30 years of experience, he has been recognized as a leading lawyer by prestigious international publications such as Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500, World IP Review, World Trademark Review and Leaders League, among others. In 2024 he was named Latin American Lawyer of the Year by Managing IP and in 2016 he was named Intellectual Property Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers.
He is currently President of the Board of Directors of Foro Innovación and Director of the Chilean Cybersecurity Alliance. In addition, he is a member of the Innovation Branch of ICARE, a member of the Advisory Board of the Ministry of Science and Technology and a member of the Advisory Board of Endeavor.
He is author of several local and foreign publications in intellectual property, consumer law, technology and data protection, and is a frequent speaker at meetings, seminars and legal conferences in Chile and abroad.
Guillermo graduated from the Law School of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
