APANECA-ILAMATEPEC- LOROCO DE SAN LORENZO

June 11

After the Seminar "Intellectual Property and Innovation: An Alliance for Regional Development" in El Salvador 2025, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy an authentic experience on Wednesday, June 11, exploring the flavors and landscapes of El Salvador in a unique journey that blends tradition, nature, and gastronomy. This tour will take us to discover two treasures of the country's agri-food heritage: coffee and Loroco, both with Appellation of Origin status.

We will begin our route at Cooperativa Los Pinos VistaLago, an iconic location in the highlands of Lake Coatepeque, a volcanic lake situated 18 km south of Santa Ana. It has an altitude of 745 meters above sea level and an area of 25.3 km². Here, we will immerse ourselves in the fascinating world of Salvadoran coffee, enjoying a tasting session and a trail walk through the “Café Apaneca-Ilamatepec”, while admiring breathtaking views of the lake.

After enjoying the magic of coffee, we will head to Cerro Verde, a destination surrounded by lush nature and stunning views of the Izalco and Santa Ana volcanoes. In this unique setting, we will enjoy an unforgettable culinary experience featuring an exclusive menu based on Loroco.

Loroco (Fernaldia pandurata) is a plant native to Central America, whose edible flower blooms on long, climbing vines. It is also valued for its digestive and calming properties in traditional medicine. Each dish is carefully prepared to highlight the subtle flavors of this unique ingredient, accompanied by a beverage and a dessert made from local products.

Participants will have the opportunity to taste gastronomic creations that showcase the flavor and versatility of Loroco, a flower that adds a distinctive aroma and taste, fundamental to Salvadoran cuisine.

We invite you to review the program, which includes a lecture on the Appellation of Origin for Salvadoran coffee, as well as visits to beautiful locations, accompanied by excellent gastronomy that coffee and Loroco offer us.
