Migratory Requirements

  • The identity document from the country of origin is a travel document valid exclusively for citizens of MERCOSUR traveling to another member or associated country of the bloc, including Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Ecuador.
  • Passwords for travel documents in process will not be accepted as valid documents for entry into and exit from the country.
  • Always check with the competent authority of the destination country regarding the travel requirements for entry into their territory.
  • All persons, nationals and foreigners in general, adults and minors, have the obligation to register their entry and exit from the country.

Paraguayans

  • Valid passport or valid Paraguayan Identity Card (valid for travel within MERCOSUR).
  • Expired travel documents of Paraguayan citizens will be accepted as valid only for entry into the country, not for exit, and must therefore be renewed to leave the national territory.

Foreigners with Permanent or Temporary Residence in Paraguay

  • Valid passport, accompanied by the Temporary or Permanent Admission Document, or Valid Identity Document from the country of origin (valid for travel within MERCOSUR), accompanied by the Temporary or Permanent Admission Document, or; Valid Paraguayan Identity Card.

Foreigners with Temporary Stay (Non-Residents)

  • Valid passport, or Valid Identity Document from the country of origin (valid for travel within MERCOSUR).
  • Consular or Arrival Visa , provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (in cases where carrying a Visa is required to enter Paraguay).
  • Proof of entry into the country (migration stamp in the passport or immigration card stamped and issued by the National Directorate of Migration upon entry into Paraguay).

  • Currency: The official currency is the Guaraní (PYG), which has been in circulation since 1944. It is the oldest legal tender still in use in South America and has maintained remarkable monetary stability over the past 70 years.
  • Official Language: Spanish and Guaraní.
  • Water: The country’s water supply is potable and is sourced from its three main rivers: the Paraguay, Paraná, and Pilcomayo rivers.
  • Climate and Seasons: Paraguay has a subtropical climate, with temperatures varying by season. In summer, average temperatures range between 25°C and 35°C (and can be higher in the Paraguayan Chaco region), while in winter they range between 10°C and 20°C (and may be lower in the southern part of the country).
  • Electricity: In Paraguay, the standard voltage is 220 V, the frequency is 50 Hz, and plug type C is used. Visitors are advised to bring an adapter or transformer to avoid any inconvenience.
