Falsificación de Medicamentos y Productos Naturales de Uso Medicinal en América Latina: Una Responsabilidad Compartida

Product counterfeiting is undoubtedly a problem that affects consumers around the world, often unconsciously. In fact, most of the time it occurs in banal aspects of our lives. However, situations such as the COVID-19 pandemic have evidenced its practiced in sensitive areas such as health, both in pharmaceuticals and natural products for medicinal use, and artifacts whose purpose is the preservation of life, in which case we have really given the matter the importance it deserves.

This work materializes the implementation of a series of mechanisms and laws, such as: a) the Law that Reforms Various Legal Bodies to Reinforce the Prevention and Fight against Illicit Trade, Strengthen the National Industry and Promote Electronic Commerce, b) the National Intellectual Property Policy, and c) binational cooperation models, which aim at strengthening Intellectual Property Rights to reduce infringements in the system and fight against piracy and counterfeiting, and implement preventive and punitive measures in the matter. In this line of ideas, it is concluded that all citizens are jointly responsible for the prevention and eradication of counterfeiting.
