Richard Stockton is a principal shareholder at Banner & Witcoff in Chicago. He received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and a law degree cum laude from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of The University of Illinois Journal of Law, Technology & Policy.
Richard has procured thousands of US design patents, utility patents, trademark registrations, and copyright registrations and has supervised procurement of thousands of counterparts in more than 130 foreign jurisdictions (he has visited more than 70 countries). He has served as counsel of record in number patent, trademark and copyright litigations.
Among other activities, Richard chairs the American Intellectual Property Law Association’s International and Foreign Laws committee, and is the vice chair of the American Bar Association Section of Intellectual Property Law’s Patent Systems Policy committee and Standing International IP Task Force. He is a past chair of the ABA IP Section’s Patent Litigation committee, AIPLA’s Industrial Design committee and the Int’l Trademark Association’s Saul Lefkowitz Trademark Moot Court committee. Richard also was an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center from 2004-11 and at Northwestern School of Law from 2012-18.
