All in ASIPI XX Congress

Today began the first round of academic panels of the ASIPI Congress.

Early on, through the panel “Strategic Allies: Entrepreneurship & Intellectual Property” participants enjoyed the experiences of the professionals Danyelle Van Stratner, specialist in franchise management, Rudi Werner president of the franchise network Werner Coiffeur, Laércio Pereira Junior, founder of Repasse, Matheus Alencar de Costa, founding partner of YourDev, Francsico Bulhões, State Deputy in Rio de Janeiro and Robson Shiba founding partner of the TrendFoods Group and owner of the China in Box brand. Luiz Henrique do Amaral, First Vice President of AIPPI, served as moderator.

After the coffee break, the speakers Sergio Barragan of PepsiCo and Sheldon Klein, President of AIPLA and AIPPI-US, together with Ricardo Fischer of Arent Fox LLP as moderator, addressed the topic of “Trademarks in a rush”, where they talked about the procedures of application and granting of trademarks.

The panel “Who owns the UGC? Social Media Marketing, Intellectual Property and User Generated Content” was addressed by Diana Arredondo of Amazon and Melissa Landau Steinman of Venable LLP with the moderation of Luiz Edgard Montaury Pimenta

Once the morning panels were over, the participants enjoyed a lunch offered by ASIPI, at the Hotel Windsor Oceanic. During this break, the Executive Committee held a working lunch with the representatives of the Sister Associations, where the updated IPs in each country were discussed.

After lunch, we had the panel “Warning! Antitrust Control in Acquisition of Intangibles ” led by Sharin Pablo, partner of the firm JJ Roca & Asociados and with Octavio Saldaña of América Móvil – Mexico and Felipe Barros Oquendo from the law firm Di Blasi Parente & Associados – Brazil as speakers.

To close the first academic day of the Congress, Maria del Pilar Troncoso, President of ASIPI, moderated the panel of “Super-Offices: Concentration of Enforcement Power, is this a path?”, with participation of directors from different offices of IP in the region: Mauro Maia, Executive Director of INPI of Brazil, Dámaso Pardo, Director of INPI of Argentina, Ruth Lockward, of ONAPI of the Dominican Republic, Ray Meloni, Director of Distinctive Signs of INDECOPI of Peru, Sylvia Ruiz, Registrar of the RPI of Guatemala and Laura Hammel, IP Attaché of USPTO of the United States.

At the beginning of the night, the participants enjoyed the pleasant reception from the Local Law Firms held in the Bar do Zeca – Vogue Square of the city of Rio de Janeiro.
