Gabriela Contreras

Gabriela is a lawyer and Notary Public from the Universidad Francisco Marroquín in Guatemala City. She holds a Master’s Degree in Intellectual Property and Human Rights from the University of Lund, Sweden and a Postgraduate Degree in Constitutional Economics and Theories of Public Decisions from the Francisco Marroquin University of Guatemala. She has more than 18 years of experience in the field of Intellectual Property.

She has worked in private practice as director of the Intellectual Property area of one of the most recognized firms in Guatemala. She has been a university professor for more than ten years with outstanding subjects, such as: Intellectual Property, Business and Company (Intellectual Property Module), International Labor Law, among others. She was consultant of the Department of Oppositions of the Intellectual Property Registry and Consultant in labor and Intellectual Property of the Chamber of Commerce of her country.

In the last decade she has worked as in-house lawyer in groups of companies with local and regional representation, with a high focus on Corporate and Intellectual Property matters. Currently, she holds the position of Corporate Legal Manager at regional level in a pharmaceutical industry group with presence in more than twelve countries. In this position, she has participated in several strategic projects and initiatives including, among others: Corporate Rebranding of the Group, Restructuring of the corporate scheme and Creation of the Trademark Strategy.
