Music, entertainment, technology, media, and publishing are the core focus of Matt’s practice. As a Partner at ArentFox Schiff LLP, Matt is a leader of the firm’s Music and Copyright teams. In the music industry, Matt has led and managed more than USD $1 Billion in transactions for the acquisition and sale of music publishing and recorded music catalogs. Matt’s clients range from large established international music publishing and rights management companies to new and upcoming businesses, legendary artists like the Rolling Stones and the Pointer Sisters, to developing songwriters and artists.
Acquisitions of rights in Beatles songs and royalties generated from Fleetwood Mac recordings are among the memorable deals Matt has handled. Matt helps creators and their families, whether US or non-US citizens, exercise termination rights under the Copyright Law of the United States for the purpose of recapturing US copyrights. Matt advises clients on developments at the intersection of law, music and technology. He was recognized by Billboard magazine as a Top Music Lawyer for 2022 and 2023. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Matt gained an extensive understanding of the music and entertainment industries while working at record companies, in live concert production, and at some of the first technology companies involved with the secure distribution of digital media.
