Today, the formal opening of the Seminar on Anti-Counterfeiting took place, with the welcome words addressed by Mr. Goswino Oduber, Director of the Bureau of Intellectual Property of Aruba; and María del Pilar Troncoso, President of ASIPI.
In her opening speech, the President of ASIPI mentioned this Seminar aims to satisfy the expectations and interests of the attendees, as well as to provide significant information to face counterfeit.
Afterwards, the initial round of panels coordinated for the academic schedule, began.
The first presentation developed the subject “High Risk for Human Life: Drug Counterfeiting”, with the panelist Felipe Gamboa (Kemtec/La Salle University -Colombia), and Wayne Roberts (Pfizer-USA), with Juli Gutiérrez as moderator (Muñiz, Ramirez, Pérez-Taiman & Olaya Law Firm-Perú).  Subsequently, Rocío Martínez (MercadoLibre-Argentina), Lorenzo Litta (Societá Italiana Brevetti-Italia) and Travis D. Johnson (IACC-USA) explained the interesting topic “Sneaky Criminals: Counterfeiting through the web, notice and take down” where Juan Luis Gracia (Salvador Ferrandis and Partners-Spain), participated as moderator.
After the interval, Glendeline Croes (HPCD International-Aruba) moderated the interventions of panelist Neil Narriman (Puma-Germany) and Estela Mariel de Luca (React Latin America-Argentina), who addressed the matter “It is not what it seems: Counterfeiting of Garments and Accessories”.  The last panel programed for the session, titled “What is being done globally? : International Efforts to Combat Counterfeiting”, was developed by Todd Reves (United States Embassy on Mexico), and Henry Camacho Montenegro (Criminal Investigation Direction and Interpol – Colombia), with the participation of Franklin Hoet (Hoet Pelaez Castillo & Duque-Venezuela) as moderator.
Each panel was enhanced with the intervention of the attendees, with their questions and commentaries.
Upon the end of the panels, the President María del Pilar Troncoso, and the Secretary of ASIPI, Luis Henriquez, attended a meeting with the Governor of Aruba, Fredis Refunjol, and the Director of the Gabinet of the Governor of Aruba, Budhy Lall.  The meeting was very productive, where the Executive Committee of ASIPI thanked the hospitality of the Aruban people, and developed a brief exposition of the Association, its objectives, projects, and confirmed its availability for the government to coordinate workshops for judges and district attorneys.
Likewise, the members of the Executive Committee of ASIPI celebrated a meeting with the presidents and representatives of the local associations.  In the encounter, it was discussed subjects of interest to all associations, and the collaboration of ASIPI was requested for detailed themes.
Once the academic agenda of the day was over, the participants of the Seminar enjoyed the Local Firms Receptions, in the House of Mosaic. The event was sponsored by the local law firm, Century Trade Mark Agencies NV.
