Tuesday morning began with the panel on “How to prove Counterfeit? Research Techniques and Generating Evidence on Counterfeit”, José Henrique Werner (ANGARDI-Brazil) and Travis D. Johnson (IACC- USA) referred to research techniques for counterfeited products and how to obtain evidence for use in court cases. The moderation was led by Alberto Guerra (Guerra IP- Brazil).
“Common problems facing the Court in cases of counterfeiting” was addressed by Luis Antonio Camargo (Judge of the Third Superior Court of Free Competition and Consumer Affairs of the Supreme Court – Panama) and Diego Farreras (Louis Vuitton Malletier- Argentina) with the moderation of Ricardo Gordó Llobell (Gordó Llobell & Asociados-Argentina).
The nourished academic agenda also brought the issue of “Consumers in Danger: Counterfeiting consumer products.” Fernando Triana (Triana, Uribe & Michelsen – Colombia) referred to adulteration, forgery and imitation and Ivette Goldfrank (USA) raised the issue of counterfeiting in wine. Moderation was in charge of Juanita Acosta (Cárdenas & Cárdenas Abogados Ltda. – Colombia).
“The Kidnapping of Marks on the Internet: Cybersquatting” was the topic of the last panel that brought the attention of attendees. Brian J. Wintefeldt (Mayer Brown LLP -USA) and Paul McGrady (Winston & Strawn LLP -USA) as speakers and James Palmer (Moffat & Co -Canada) as moderator, referred to the tools available for the protection of trademarks on the Internet against abuses of the domain name system.
The academic agenda successfully concluded with great participation.
The closing event of this meeting took place at the beach.
