Buenos Aires with its cultural richness, its gastronomy, its sports passion and its wonderful people, welcomed more than 600 participants who attended the XIX Work Sessions and Administrative Council of ASIPI from December 4 to 7.
And every ASIPI event is unique. Each one carries the ‘imprint’ of the country and the reality of the moment reflected in the academic and social agenda that is offered.
Days prior to the beginning of the Work Sessions were of a lot of work within the Association with meetings of the Executive Committee, the Administrative Council and the Working Committees. Projects, guidelines, evaluations, agreements, were present throughout those days, always with the sole objective of strengthening the Association to achieve a greater impact in the field of Intellectual Property.
Also, ASIPI new members and first time attendees had a special place on the agenda. The traditional ‘Mentorship Program’ offered them the opportunity to become acquainted with ASIPI members and start a network of contacts to get the most out of the event.
On the night of Sunday, December 4, with words from Juan Berton Moreno, President of the Host Committee, Miguel Braun, Secretary of Commerce, Dámaso Pardo, President of the National Institute of Intellectual Property (INPI), Gustavo Schötz, Director of the National Directorate of Copyright, Carolina Fernández, President of the Argentinian Association of Intellectual Property (AAAPI) and María del Pilar Troncoso, President of the Inter-American Intellectual Property Association (ASIPI), the event was formally opened.
In her opening speech, María del Pilar Troncoso, who assumed the presidency of the Association a year ago, referred to the challenges, the projects achieved and highlighted the academic program of the event.
Then, the children and adolescents of the Orchestra Creciendo en Armonía performed melodies that delighted the audience.
The evening ended with a pleasant Cocktail at the Hilton of Puerto Madero, venue of the event.
During the first academic day, renowned panelists referred to the topic of valuation of intangibles, TPP, protection of appellations of origin, responsibility for online content and the so-called ‘wearable technologies’.
It is worth highlighting during this day, the execution of the collaboration agreement between ASIPI and the Supreme Court of Justice of Paraguay as well as with the Arbitration Center of the Chamber of Commerce of Santiago de Chile.
The night was spent at the Usina del Arte, cultural center of the city, where the Law Firms offered an entertaining Cocktail where people enjoyed a tango show and danced to the rhythm of a capella rock group.
During the second academic day, participants were able to attend workshops on PCT, administration of firms, digital medicine, franchising and arbitration, and in the afternoon, taking advantage of the good weather, sports activities were held at the Jockey Club and tours through the city.
The last day of the Work Sessions began with a presentation of the ASIPI/INTA “Trademark Impact Study”, followed by a panel on biotechnological inventions, cybersecurity, the proof of use of a trademark and the image of the athletes divided between events and their commercial commitments. A presentation was also made with WIPO on the Inventor Assistance Program (IAP).
Very positive was the balance of the academic agenda that shone through the participation of the attendees and the quality of the panels.
And to close this event, La Rural was the space chosen for the Final Dinner where, with dancing and music, we said goodbye to the Work Sessions.
